Making Travel With Kids Easy and Pleasant

This blog is designed to offer parents useful tips and tricks for traveling with kids, and for making the most out of lodging no matter what accommodations may be available.

Money-Saving Tips For Your Family Hotel Stay

When you have a family, going on vacation can get pretty expensive. Between the costs of transportation, event tickets, and dining out, the total can add up quickly. It makes sense, then, that you would want to look into ways to save. One of the best places to save is on the cost of your hotel stay. Here are some tips to help get that expense down.

Sign up for a loyalty program.

Many hotel chains have a loyalty program. Once you sign up, you earn points with every stay, and when you earn enough points, you can get a deep discount on your stay or maybe even a few free nights. Often, these hotels offer a special discount when you first sign up for the loyalty program, too. You might, for example, get a $20 discount the first time you book a room as a loyalty member. Explore programs like this through various hotel chains, and once you find one that seems to be a good deal, sign up.

Book a room without a view.

At many vacation destinations, you can pay more for a hotel room with a good view, or less for a hotel room with no view or a poor view. For instance, it will cost a lot less to book a room overlooking the hotel's courtyard than one overlooking the magnificent waterfall nearby. There will be other ways to enjoy that view, so book the cheap room and save.

Look for a hotel that caters to kids.

Look for a hotel that advertises itself as being family lodging and/or kid-friendly. Hotels of this sort tend to offer amenities like a continental breakfast with kid-friendly options, and playgrounds or pools. These amenities will save you money overall. You won't have to pay to take everyone out to breakfast, and the kids can entertain themselves for free in the pool or playground rather than you paying for them to go to a zoo or water park.

Arrive mid-week.

If possible, plan on arriving at your hotel in the middle of the week. Hotels usually offer more affordable rates mid-week. They may let you pay that same low rate through the weekend. Even if they do charge you a little more for those weekend days, you'll at least have paid the lower weekday rate for a few of your days.

There are many ways to save on your family hotel stay. Start with the tips above, and don't be afraid to get creative.
